Escorts
When escorts are needed and number of escorts required
- Width greater than 12' and less than 16' requires 1 escort
- Width of 16' and less than 20' requires 1 escort and a police escort
- Width of 20' or more requires 2 police escorts
- Length greater than 80' but less than 125' requires 1 escort
- Length of 125' and less than 150' requires 1 escort and a police escort
- Length greater than 150' requires 2 police escorts
- Overhang 15' or more requires 1 escort (Front)
- Height above 16' requires Front escort with height pole
One or more Maine State Police officers must be present to escort overdimensional vehicles moving at night.
*The above regulations specifically apply to movements of objects that are not mobile or modular homes.
Escort vehicle requirements can differ significantly by state in terms of mandatory driver qualifications, training, certifications, vehicle weights, obligatory signage/flags/lighting, necessary onboard equipment, and more.
