SUPER LOADS

The following dimensions make up a super load: 14’5″ (4.4m) wide, 15′ (4.57m) high, 101′ (30.79m) long, and 140,800 lbs. gross weight.

Escort vehicle requirements can differ significantly by province in terms of mandatory driver qualifications, training, certifications, vehicle weights, obligatory signage/flags/lighting, necessary onboard equipment, and more. The ODS team can provide you with all additional requirements specific to your route.

Operating Times

Travel is permitted 24 hours a day for loads under the following dimensions: 10’6″ (3.2m) wide, 14’5″(4.4m) high, and 82′ (25m) long. Loads that exceed these dimensions must travel during daylight hours only.

Weekend travel

No travel Friday and Saturday from 3:30PM to 4:00AM if over 10’6” (3.2m) wide to 14’5” (4.4m) wide.

No travel on Sunday from 3:30PM to 12:00AM if over 12’5 (3.8m) to 14’5” (4.4m) wide.

No travel Saturday or Sunday if over 14’5” (4.4m) wide to 16’4” (5m) wide.

Restricted travel

A permit is not valid on the First Narrows (Lions Gate) Bridge, Highway 6 between Slocan and Silverton, through the George Massey Tunnel on Highway 99 if the height is in excess of 13’7″ (4.14m)

On any highway on the lower mainland west of Mission or Abbotsford and between the hours of 7:00-9:00AM and 3:30-6:00PM on any day, except that travel will be permitted between Abbotsford and Pike Road (104th Avenue exit) on Highway 1.

No travel when visibility is restricted due to inclement weather.

From the last Friday in June to the second Monday in September west of Mission or Abbotsford including Vancouver Island between the hours of 2:00PM Friday and daylight of the following Monday.

Oversize vehicles shall pull off the traveled surface of the highway whenever possible to allow following vehicles to pass.

The maximum dimensions for monthly oversize permits are as follows: length 25 m. (82′), width 3.20m. (10’6″), height 4.30 m. (14’1″), rear overhang 6.5 m. (21’3″) and pin projection 3 m. (9’10”).

Permits are only valid on provincial highways. Separate permits must be obtained to travel through city and municipal roads.
